I-9 Compliance and Auditing on the Rise Again!

The Department of Justice has announced civil penalties as high as every day this week against employers large and small for immigration-related discrimination in the employment verification process.  Today’s fine amounted to: $857,868. 

These civil penalties were all due to employers requiring specific documents of workers.  Employers are prohibited from limiting workers’ choice of documentation to present for employment verification based on the workers’ citizenship, immigration status, or national origin.
